Royal Mail Christmas Stamp Collection

The Royal Mail has announced the theme for 2009 Christmas stamp collection will mark the impact of the Pre-Raphaelite movement on church stained-glass windows.

Christmas Stamp DesignThe five stamp designs, first and second class, 56p, 90p and £1.35 stamp, will be taken from stained-glass window designs, once again showing Royal Mails policty of embracing alternate religious and secular themes every year.

The images on the first class stamp will show Madonna And Child, by artist , taken from a stained-glass window in the Church of Ormesby St Michael, in Great Yarmouth.

Second class stamps will show an Angel taken from a stained-glass window in the Church of St James in Kendal, Cumbria that was designed by the 19th century Pre-Raphaelite artist William Morris.

Other stamp designs include stained-glass windows by the artist Holiday and shows the revival of interest in the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Earlier this year, the Pre-Raphaelite movement saw a surge in interest during an exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London featuring work by John William Waterhouse.
